Gohan was glad that he finally seemed to be entering the final stages of his training. Instead of some task that was usually menial that Master Roshi made more difficult by getting in the way, there were dummies here and the turtle hermit. He hadn't been told what they were doing yet, but he had been told to be ready to go by dawn. He had his blank orange gi on as he waited for Master Roshi to come out... and he continued to wait. By the time that the sun had reached its peak in the sky, the old man finally waddled out his house. Gohan gritted his teeth, not saying anything as he waited. "Are you ready?" The old man asked, acting as if nothing as out of place.
The half saiyan was rather annoyed by the fact that Master Roshi wasn't one to do things on time. The young man felt as if his master was always trying to spend more time alone with Alexi and Launch, even though Launch was horrifying at times and Alexi was rather shy. Gohan supposed it didn't matter to the turtle hermit as long as he could stare at them in his lecherous way. He let out a heavy sigh, knowing that it was pointless to hold on to silly grudges like this one.
"Today I will be teaching you Jan-ken. First you must clear your mind of all distractions. Then you must perform something that I'm sure you're familiar with." Master Roshi said, in his usual position, hunched over slightly, leaning on his staff with one hand behind his back. But then he exploded into motion, first using Rock the Scissors then Paper. Gohan looked in confusion at the turtle hermit, wondering if he was being completely serious. "You're teaching me Rock, Paper, Scissors?" He couldn't quite figure out what practicality that would have in a fight, yet he couldn't figure out the motivation of Master Roshi's training usually either.
"Yes, yes I am. It was one of Goku's more used moves as a young man and now I'm going to teach it to you. Now pay attention. Clear your thoughts." Gohan nodded, attempting to remove all thoughts from his brain, although he couldn't quite manage to do so. He was still rather annoyed at Master Roshi's lateness. "Now you must move fluidly between the dummies, hitting them with the three different moves of Jan-Ken." Gohan nodded, moving closer to the dummies and getting into a ready stance.
The young warrior moved with intense speed, slamming the Rock, his fist, into the first dummy's stomach before jerking to the next one. He did the only natural thing there, spreading his Scissor, two of his fingers, and jabbing them into what would be the dummy's eye sockets. He stretched over to the next one, slamming his Paper, his palm, slamming into what would be the chin of his opponent. He took a step back, looking at Master Roshi to grade his performance.
"You're much too jerky, Gohan. You must move fluidly, you can't make it as if you're angry!" Gohan wanted to glare at the old man. The only reason he was angry was because he had to wait until dawn before the crazy old man had shown up. He let out a heavy breath, attempting to expel all distractions, thoughts, and feelings. He could still feel the tinge of annoyance in the back of his head. The half saiyan waved it away, ready to perform the move again.
The young warrior took a single step forward, leaning to his left as he used Rock with all of the force he could muster. The head of the dummy went flying into the distance before Gohan quickly used Scissor on the next one, his fingers crunching through the wood as if it was rotten. He began to form Paper as he turned to the next one, slamming his palm into it and leaving and indentation of it upon its stomach. He turned back to Master Roshi, knowing that perhaps he had still let his anger take the reigns in that assault.
"You're doing better but you're still angry! You must clear your mind, even of me." Gohan's eyes widened, a thought unexpectedly coming to him. Perhaps this had all gone according to Roshi's plans. Had the old man purposely made him angry just to make it more important to clear his mind? Goku had never told Gohan about the turtle hermit being so lax about training. It all made sense now. The half saiyan nodded, to himself, replacing the dummies before getting into a stance that showed he was ready to attack.
Gohan let out a breath, his mind becoming blank and focusing upon what he was about to do. The young warrior shouted "Rock!" as he slammed his fist into the dummy's gut before twisting around, shouting "Paper!" His open palm hitting the dummy in what would be its ribs. "Scissors!" He roared as he spun, his fingers slamming into the dummy. He took a few steps back, feeling confident that he had correctly performed the attack this time.
"Well it wasn't great but I suppose it'll do for now. I'm hungry." Master Roshi said, turning around as he tottered back into the house. Gohan stood for a moment, grinning as he surveyed the dummies before following the old man into the house. He knew that it was going to be a long road to power, but if he planned on keeping everyone safe, it was one that he would have to tread with determination. The young half saiyan went into the house, ready to fill his stomach after waiting outside all day.
